Welcome!

As our first season is underway, we would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about what we do here.  Baraboo River Canoe & Kayak Rentals is a local business that rents kayaks and canoes. We operate out of the small and friendly village of North Freedom, WI (just five miles west of Baraboo). North Freedom is the home of the Mid-Continental Railway Museum, and has a lovely new restaurant in town called The Gravy Train! North Freedom is where the journey begins!

There are a variety of scenic trips to choose from and already we can see customers have a couple of favorites! The first starts out in North Freedom and is a rural and very pretty paddle. We have had reports of lots of wildlife not limited to deer, cranes and other birds, turtles, and even cows drinking from the Baraboo River! This trip is great for fishing!

The second is for our kayakers who seek a little adventure and excitement. This trip starts at Giese Park. The water here is still moving slower and starts to speed up you near the historic City of Baraboo.  There are so many pretty buildings to pass by. This trip requires maneuvering through the Class 1 rapids and is for kayaks only.

These are only two of the six canoe and kayak trips we offer. The trips can be as short at 1-2 hours or as long as 5-7 hours. There is no time limit on the canoe  trips. Each group can take it as fast or slow as they like!

We are very proud to use only Old Town canoes and kayaks. All of our rentals include the boat, shuttle service to and from entry and exit points, paddles, and life preservers.

The owner, Robert “Al” Doering is very happy that the Baraboo River is finally being utilized. Al has been hunting and fishing in the Baraboo River area all of his adult life. He owns a repair shop in North Freedom, WI called North Freedom Repair. His community is very important to him as he is the Assistant Fire Chief and a Village Board Member.

We are very excited to see what the rest of the first season brings for Baraboo River Canoe & Kayak Rentals! So far, it has been very nice to meet people from all over the country!
